Funke Akindele, a popular Nigerian actress and filmmaker, has broken records with her new movie, “EverybodyLovesJenifa(ELJ).”
The film, which premiered on December 13, 2024, earned an incredible N206 million in its first weekend at the Nigerian box office.
Funke Akindele shared her excitement and gratitude on Instagram, saying, “Thank you Lord!!! Thank you Nigeria!!! Thank you!!!!!!!!!”
On its opening day, “EverybodyLovesJenifa” made N45.22 million, which is 30% more than her last movie, “A Tribe Called Judah,” earned on its first day.
Over the weekend, the movie sold 38,353 tickets, making it the highest-grossing Nollywood opening weekend this year and the biggest in the history of the industry.
A major highlight was its record-breaking performance on a single day, where it earned N87.8 million, setting a new milestone in Nollywood.
The film also premiered internationally in 30 countries through Nile Group Entertainment, showcasing Nigerian talent on a global stage.
Interestingly, “EverybodyLovesJenifa” achieved these impressive numbers despite not being screened at Genesis Cinemas and missing part of the day at Silverbird Cinemas.
This record-breaking achievement further cements Funke Akindele’s status as a trailblazer in the Nigerian movie industry.
