A 50-year-old father was tragically killed while shielding his family during an incident at a Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Corey Comperatore, a retired volunteer fire chief, was seated behind former President Donald Trump on Saturday, July 13, when shots were fired from a rooftop about 130 yards away.
The bullets, intended for Trump, injured him slightly in the ear and critically wounded two others before the shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, was shot dead by Secret Service agents.
Witnesses recounted how Comperatore heroically threw himself in front of his wife and daughter to protect them. Despite efforts to save him, he passed away at the scene.
His daughter, Allyson, described her father as a real-life superhero in a heartfelt social media post, saying, “He loved his family. He truly loved us enough to take a bullet for us.”
Comperatore’s sister mourned his loss on Facebook, condemning the senseless violence that took the life of a beloved family man.
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro praised Comperatore as a dedicated firefighter and community member who died a hero.
Following the incident, Trump expressed condolences for the victims and praised law enforcement for their swift response. He described the harrowing moment when he realized he had been shot, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation.
The shooting has sparked discussions about security at public events and the need for unity amidst divisive rhetoric in the country.
