Fela Durotoye, a well-known Nigerian public speaker and leadership coach, has addressed false claims about him being an aide to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Durotoye explained that his role as Senior Special Assistant on National Values and Social Justice (SSA-NVSJ) ended in March 2024. He had started the position in October 2023 and served for six months.
This statement comes after a list of 13 alleged media aides to President Tinubu went viral on social media. The list, which included Durotoye’s name, sparked criticism about the cost of governance in the current administration.
Responding to the claims, Durotoye said, “Like many other issues in public discourse, social commentary often has the tendency to overgeneralize; and broad assumptions may sometimes lead to errors of misconceptions, misstatements, and misinformation.”
He further clarified that his service as a presidential aide was unpaid. “I served briefly in the role of Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Values and Social Justice for a tenure of six months, from October 2023 to March 2024,” Durotoye shared.
He also emphasized that his name on the list is outdated and has no connection to the president’s current media team.
Durotoye urged the public to be more accurate when sharing information, to avoid spreading falsehoods.
