King Mohammed VI of Morocco has sent warm greetings to leaders of Islamic countries for the Hijri New Year 1446 AH.
On Saturday evening, the King, also known as Amir Al-Mouminine (Commander of the Faithful), sent special greeting cards to kings, presidents, and emirs across the Islamic world.
In these cards, King Mohammed VI wished them a blessed and prosperous new year. He also hoped that the new year would bring happiness and prosperity to all Muslims.
The announcement about the New Year came from the Islamic Affairs Ministry on Saturday evening after the traditional sighting of the crescent moon earlier that day.
The ministry confirmed that the first day of Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar, would be on Sunday, July 7.

The ministry also sent their best wishes and congratulations to the Moroccan people and the royal family for the New Year.
The Islamic New Year, called Hijri, marks the migration of Prophet Mohammed from Mecca to Medina in 622 AD, starting the Islamic calendar at 1 AH (After Hijra). Sunday, which is Muharram 1, will start the year 1446 AH.
