The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President, Joe Ajaero, and the General Secretary, Emma Ugboaja, have been called by the Nigeria Police Force to report to the Force Headquarters on September 5, 2024.
This new summons comes less than a day after Ajaero responded to an earlier police invitation.
The previous invite was related to accusations of criminal conspiracy, terrorism financing, treason, subversion, and cybercrime.
Now, the police want Ajaero and Ugboaja to answer to new accusations, including criminal intimidation, actions that could disturb public peace, and damaging properties.
This invitation is said to be issued by the Force Intelligence Department (FID) of the Nigeria Police Force.
This situation highlights growing tension between the NLC leadership and Nigerian authorities, as the union has been actively opposing government policies that it believes harm Nigerian workers and the public.
