Popular Nigerian Islamic singer, Rukayat Gawat Oyefeso, will be laid to rest on Tuesday.
Earlier, Beyond Boders reported her passing and has gathered that the Solatul Janazzah (Prayer for the Dead) was held for her in Ojota, Lagos, earlier on Tuesday.
The prayer, streamed live on TikTok, stated that her final prayer and burial will happen in Ijebu Aiyepe, Ogun State, by noon on the same day.
A popular Islamic channel, YAYI TV, also shared the news on Facebook, saying, “Alh. Rukayat Gawat is no more May Allah be pleased with her – Amin.”
Her brother, Jubril Gawat, who serves as the Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, shared a Quran verse on his X account: “Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return,” (Quran 2:156). His post received many condolences from friends and followers.
Rukayat Gawat was known for her beautiful voice and her religious songs, which touched the hearts of many in the Muslim community.
It was also reported that on September 14, 2024, she held a 12-year remembrance for her missing father, Aremu Gawat, a well-known Islamic presenter who has been missing since July 2012.
