Miss South Africa 2024, Mia Le Roux, has decided to withdraw from the Miss Universe competition because of health concerns.
The Miss South Africa Organisation announced this on Friday, sharing that Le Roux made the tough choice to focus on her well-being.
In her message, Le Roux thanked South Africans for their ongoing support. “Making this decision has been incredibly challenging, knowing the dreams and hopes that have been placed upon me.
“However, I am deeply grateful to have the opportunity to focus on my health and recovery so that I may continue to serve my country with full strength,” she said.
The Miss South Africa Organisation also backed Le Roux, praising her for showing strength during this difficult time. “Mia has shown incredible courage and grace throughout this difficult period.
“Her health and well-being are our utmost priority, and we stand by her side, dedicated to ensuring she regains her strength and returns to full health,” the organization stated.
Le Roux’s departure from Miss Universe follows a controversial year for the Miss South Africa pageant.
Earlier, Chidimma Adetshina, a contestant with Nigerian and South African roots, withdrew after backlash regarding her background.
Born to a Nigerian father and South African mother, Adetshina later joined and won the Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 pageant.
With Adetshina stepping down, Le Roux went on to be crowned Miss South Africa 2024.
