A woman from Gombe, Janty Emmanuel, got in trouble with the law after throwing lots of N1,000 notes at a party.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) took action fast. She was caught for what she did at G-Connect in Tumfure, Gombe State, on May 20, 2024.
Dele Oyewale, a spokesperson for the EFCC, explained that Emmanuel was seen throwing money like it was nothing.
EFCC got to know about this as it was all caught on video and spread like wildfire on social media.
Officials of the EFCC, as soon as they knew, grabbed Emmanuel for questioning. She owned up to what she did, saying she got carried away in the moment.
The EFCC is determined to stop this kind of thing. It is against the law, according to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act.
The EFCC wants everyone to know that throwing money around like that hurts the Naira’s value and respect.
Emmanuel will have to deal with the consequences. After the EFCC finishes checking things out, she could end up paying a fine, going to jail, or both.
Beyond Boders notes that this is not the first time an individual has landed into trouble for this. Just recently, a famous crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, known as Bobrisky, got six months in prison for doing the same thing.
