A court in Ikorodu, Lagos State, has ordered that key people involved in the investigation of singer Mohbad’s death must be contacted through public announcements.
This is part of an ongoing investigation into how Mohbad, whose real name was Ilerioluwa Aloba, died on September 12, 2023.
The court has decided that notices should be placed in well-known national newspapers and on social media so that several important individuals can be reached.
Those who need to testify include popular singer Naira Marley (Azeez Fashola), Sam Larry (Samson Eletu), Mohbad’s sister-in-law Karimot Ogunbayo, Boluwatife Adeyemo (known as Darosha), and Mohbad’s lawyer Oluwasanmi Falade.
Also required to testify are nurse Feyisayo Ogedengbe, who treated Mohbad, and driver Fidelis Esanbor, who took him to the hospital.
Magistrate T.A. Sotobi agreed to this request after Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, asked for this method because it was hard to serve these witnesses directly.
The court’s decision was shared through a statement by the Aloba family’s lawyers, stressing the importance of having these witnesses attend promptly.
The legal team, led by Wahab Shittu (SAN), asked for these individuals to testify to clear up details about Mohbad’s death.
They also asked for Mohbad’s wife, Wunmi, and the police officer handling the case, ASP Muhammad Yusuf, to return to address new questions and clarify statements about an alleged fight in Mohbad’s home.
Beyond Boders further reports that the court has paused the case to allow time for the witness summons to be issued and for the witnesses to show up in court.
Mohbad, who was 27 years old, was a former artiste under Marlian Music. He passed away under unclear circumstances, which have led to many discussions on social media.
He left Naira Marley’s record label in February 2022 after claiming multiple times that he was assaulted and his life was threatened.
