The new Governing Councils for federal universities, polytechnics, and other colleges will begin on July 4, 2024.
Professor Aisha Maikudi, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja, shared this news during her speech on Monday; she was speaking as she took over her new role at the university.
A total of 560 people have been chosen for these governing councils and boards. President Bola Tinubu approved these appointments.
Nnamdi Mbaeri, a senior government official, said the President made these changes to help manage universities and colleges better across Nigeria.
For the University of Ibadan, Chief Bisi Akande will lead the council. The other members are Alexander Ajipe, Nelson Alapa, Ifeoma Nwankwo, and Professor Emmanuel Alo.
Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN) will lead the council for the University of Lagos. The other members are Bello Kumo, Professor Idowu Mark, Niyi Akande, and Bola Njoku.
Isa Yuguda will lead the council for the National Open University. The other members are Goddy Etta, Yomi Balogun, Deborah Apah, and Hingah Biem.
Siyan Oyeweso will lead the council for Obafemi Awolowo University. The other members are Edward Sarki, Joseph Abaagu, Wahaab Owokoniran, and Abubakar Kachaalla.
Adebayo Shittu, Muiz Banire, and Senator Florence Ita Giwa have been chosen as leaders for the boards of David Umahi University of Medicine, Federal University of Transportation, and Federal Polytechnic in Ugep, Cross River State.
