Tragedy struck last Friday when a health worker named Umar Mohammed was killed by hoodlums at a wedding ceremony in the Gbegenu area of Minna.
Umar Mohammed, who worked at a private clinic, was on his way home when he decided to attend the wedding.
According to eyewitness Haruna Aminu, Mohammed had just arrived when a group of over ten hoodlums stormed the event with dangerous weapons. The attackers caused chaos, injuring several people.
“Umar was attempting to leave the scene of the wedding when the hoodlum came after him and one of them stabbed him in the head with his dagger,” Aminu said, adding that Mohammed fell to the ground, bleeding heavily.
Beyond Boders also learned that Mohammed was rushed to Minna General Hospital, but was declared dead upon arrival.
The Niger State Police Command spokesman, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident.
“Two suspects were arrested while others fled from the scene, however, effort is ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects as the incident is under investigation,” Abiodun said.
