Veteran Nollywood actor, Kanayo O. Kanayo, fondly called “Nnanyi sacrifice” is upset about the Federal Government’s new rule banning scenes of “money rituals” in movies and music videos.
The government says these scenes promote illegal activities and harm society, but Kanayo thinks this rule is complete “nonsense.”
He questioned why the Minister of Arts, Culture, and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, is restricting what filmmakers can create.
Kanayo is not alone in his criticism. Musician Mike Okri also doubts the government’s motives, wondering if they are trying to harm the film industry.
The government says the ban is to protect people and society, but creatives like Kanayo and Okri feel it is an attack on their freedom to make art.
