No Ransom Paid, Police Confirm Release of Abducted Medical Students

by Beyondboders

The Nigeria Police Force announced on Saturday that 20 medical students who were kidnapped along the Otukpo/Otukpa/Enugu Road have been safely rescued.

Beyond Boders reports that these students, from the University of Maiduguri and the University of Jos, were on their way to Enugu for a convention when bandits captured them.

The incident caused widespread concern, prompting Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to quickly send special police teams, helicopters, drones, and tactical vehicles to help rescue the students.

Extra detectives were also sent to Benue State to assist in the operation.

In a statement on Saturday, Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed that no ransom was paid, despite rumours on social media.
