John Okarfor, a beloved figure in Nollywood, affectionately known as Mr Ibu, has passed away at the age of 62.
Reports from close sources indicate that the veteran actor breathed his last at Evercare Hospital.
Fans worldwide are mourning the loss of the comedic genius, sharing fond memories of his numerous film appearances.
Emeka Rollas, the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, confirmed the tragic news on social media, expressing deep sorrow for the loss.
Rollas stated, “Sad Day for Actors Guild of Nigeria. Kate Henshaw lost her mother earlier today and Mr Ibu suffered cardiac arrest according to his manager for 24 years Mr Don Single Nwuzor. I announce with deep sense of grief that Mr Ibu didnt make it. May his soul rest in peace.”
Further details surrounding his demise are yet to emerge, and the actor’s family and representatives have not issued any public statements.
Beyond Boders recalls that Mr Ibu had been battling health complications since October 2023, enduring several surgeries, including the amputation of his leg.
Despite the challenges, there were hopeful signs of recovery as reported by his family in November.
The news of his passing comes shortly after the loss of another Nollywood veteran, Quadri Oyebamiji, popularly known as Sisi Quadri, adding to the somber atmosphere within the Nigerian film industry.
