A car crash at the University of Ilorin campus on Thursday caused one death and injured nine others.
The crash involved a ten-seater commercial bus that was taking passengers from the campus to the town.
Kunle Akogun, the Director of Corporate Affairs of the University, said the accident involved a commercial bus with ten passengers leaving the campus, but did not say if the person who died was a student or a worker at the university.
“The management of the University of Ilorin is saddened to announce the occurrence of a motor accident on campus this afternoon.
“As soon as it occurred, the University Management immediately commenced rescue operations, and all the victims were moved to the University Health Centre. They were attended to by a team of medical personnel at the University Health Centre,” Akogun said.

He added that one person died in the accident, and five others were seriously injured. While one person needed advanced treatment and was sent to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital after being stabilized, four others had minor injuries and were treated and sent home.
Five victims, including two males, two females, and the driver, are still being treated at the University Health Centre.
“Unfortunately, one of the victims was brought in dead, the body has been transferred to the morgue, and the University management is making efforts to contact the next of kin,” Akogun said.
“The Management regrets this unfortunate incident, condoles with the family of the deceased, and prays God to comfort the family while we pray for a quick recovery of the injured victims,” Akogun concluded.
