In a shocking incident in the Bauchi metropolis, the Bauchi State Police Command reported the arrest of a 35-year-old man accused of attempting to murder his wife using a pestle.
The motive behind the brutal act, as revealed by the police, was the man’s plan to sell their television set and use the proceeds to furnish his shop.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Ahmed Wakil, as gathered by Beyond Boders, shared details of the disturbing case in a statement titled ‘Husband disguises, assaults his wife,’ made available to journalists on Saturday.
According to Wakil, detectives from the ‘A’ Divisional Police Headquarters in Bauchi arrested Tijjani Ahmadu Diye on December 2, 2023, for assault, causing grievous harm, and attempting to commit culpable homicide.
It was also revealed that the victim was promptly taken to Specialist Hospital, Bauchi, for necessary medical attention.
Wakil explained, “Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect admitted the allegation against him without much resistance. In his confession, the suspect raised a false alarm that armed robbers entered their house.”
The disturbing sequence of events continued as the suspect, after raising the false alarm, instructed his wife to cover her head with a scarf.
Armed with a pestle and his face concealed, he returned to the bedroom and mercilessly attacked his wife.
The police spokesperson added, “The suspect further confessed that he intended to neutralize her and take their television and sell it to raise money to furnish his shop.”
Commissioner of Police Auwal Mohammed has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation for a thorough and discreet investigation.
Following the investigation, the suspect will face charges in court for the alleged assault and attempted homicide.
