Pope Francis has been taken to a hospital in Rome for treatment of bronchitis, the Vatican confirmed on Friday.
The 88-year-old Pope has been struggling to breathe in recent days and had to ask others to read his speeches for him.
After his morning meetings, he was admitted to Gemelli Hospital for medical tests and continued treatment for his condition.
Pope Francis has a history of breathing problems. As a young man, he had part of a lung removed.
He also spent three nights in the hospital in March 2023 due to bronchitis, which was treated with antibiotics.
In December 2023, another case of bronchitis forced him to cancel a planned visit to the COP28 climate conference in Dubai.
Over the years, the Pope has faced several health challenges, including knee and hip pain, an inflamed colon, and hernia surgery.
