Human Rights Radio, based in Abuja, has stopped broadcasting to protest the recent arrest of children during the #EndBadGovernance protests.
Ahmed Isah, who owns the station and hosts its popular morning show “Berekete Family,” announced the shutdown while calling into the programme.
Usually, Isah hosts the show in person every weekday, but he was absent, explaining he was in shock after learning about the children’s condition. The minors had been brought to court on Friday, which deeply upset him.
Around 8:20 am during the live show, Isah called in to express his anger over the situation and directed the station to stop broadcasting immediately.
He stated that the radio station would remain off-air until Tuesday, when further discussions on the matter would take place. It would go off again afterward, with plans to hear listeners’ opinions on Wednesday.
The government, led by President Tinubu, has faced growing public pressure since images of the detained children circulated widely online last week.
