Nigerian model Olajumoke Orisaguna, known as “Olajumoke Onibread,” has shared her painful experience with domestic violence, which she says ruined her once-promising career.
Beyond Boders recalls that Olajumoke became famous in 2016 after accidentally walking into a photoshoot with British rapper Tinie Tempah, taken by top Nigerian photographer TY Bello. Her story touched many hearts, but her sudden disappearance left fans wondering what went wrong.
Speaking on City FM, Olajumoke opened up about her struggles in her marriage to her ex-husband, Sunday Orisaguna. She revealed that their problems started when they lived in Ire, Osun State, where she faced mistreatment from her mother-in-law and physical abuse from Sunday.
After moving to Lagos to seek a better life, Olajumoke began hawking bread to support her family. It was during this time that her life changed when she met TY Bello, leading to her rise to fame. However, her husband later joined her in Lagos, and the abuse continued even as her modeling career flourished.
Olajumoke said she stayed silent about the abuse for a long time because of societal pressure and the fear of judgment as a mother of two.

She explained that Sunday’s actions, including spreading false stories about her and her supporters, damaged her career after their separation.
“What I am saying now, I have never said it out before. Even when I met TY Bello and I told her that I had a husband, my friend was furious when she found out. She was like I do not have sense, why would I say someone who beats me is my husband? I had to explain that I had to say that because I have children,” she said.
She recounted how Sunday would beat her, monitor her movements, and accuse her of infidelity, even though she was the one working hard to support their family.
“While he was beating me, he did not have a job. I was the one who would go out to hustle for us because I did not want my children to suffer. He would just stay at home and sleep or go out to drink. I did not even disturb him from doing these things, I just wanted him to stop beating me. Then he also started monitoring me when I went to work. If I go for photoshoots, sometimes I come back very late. He would accuse me of sleeping around with other men.”
Olajumoke said things fell apart after their separation. “It got so bad that he would even start insulting my parents. It was when I separated from him, that was when everything started going down the drain because he started spoiling my name. All those who had helped me then, he started saying bad things against them. Since then, things started going down,” she added.
