Since becoming a top music star in 2022, Nigerian singer Asake has continued to rise with hit songs and albums.
Beyond Boders reports that he recently sold out the O2 Arena for the second time and announced a new documentary about his musical journey.
On September 23, 2024, Asake shared the news on Instagram. The documentary, narrated by famous British actor Idris Elba, starts with scenes from the Lagos neighbourhood where Asake grew up. It tells the story of his rise from being a “ghetto boy” to becoming a superstar.
This documentary comes after the release of Asake’s third album, “Lungu Boy,” which features top artistes like Wizkid, Stormzy, Central Cee, and Ludmila. The title “Lungu Boy” highlights Asake’s journey from the streets to stardom.
At his latest O2 Arena concert, Idris Elba presented Asake with two awards: a sold-out plaque from the O2 Arena and a BRIT silver plaque for his album “Work of Art.* This is Asake’s second silver plaque in the UK, following his first album “Mr. Money With The Vibes.”
Asake has made history in the UK by having all three of his albums reach the top of the UK Apple Music Album Chart, making him the first Nigerian artist to do so.
However, some Nigerians online felt that the documentary’s narration could have been done by a Nigerian celebrity instead of Idris Elba.
