Those Behind My Death Rumour Won’t Escape Tragedy – Obasanjo

by Beyondboders

Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has dismissed false reports about his death circulating on social media, confirming that he is alive and well.

Obasanjo addressed the rumours while speaking at the opening of the Old-Garage-Oke-Fia-Lameco road in Osun State. The project was commissioned by the state’s governor, Ademola Adeleke.

Speaking in Yoruba, Obasanjo expressed disappointment over the false reports. “I heard the rumour that I was dead. I saw it on the social media. I quickly told my children and my relations that it was not true and that I was alive. Those who want me dead, that is their wish but God still keeps me alive,” he said.

He criticized the spread of such rumours, describing it as a misuse of technology. “Why would anyone wish me dead? Those who harbour such thoughts will not escape tragedy themselves.

“This kind of rumour is not only disturbing but shows the extent to which some people misuse technology. It is unacceptable,” he added.

During the event, Obasanjo praised Governor Adeleke for his performance in Osun State, commending his leadership and predicting his re-election.

“When he came on board some people ridiculously said he has nothing to offer except to dance but he has shown them that he is a good dancer and also a good performer.

“Governor Adeleke has delivered for the people of Osun, and I believe they will support him again,” Obasanjo said.

In his speech, Governor Adeleke highlighted his administration’s achievements in infrastructure development. He noted that over 120 kilometers of roads had been built across the state, with major projects like flyovers in Osogbo, Ile-Ife, and Ilesa progressing steadily.

He assured citizens that his government would not take loans to fund projects. “We only block leakages in the state’s finances and employ local content to moderate project costs and enforce high standards,” Adeleke explained.

As he plans for the second half of his term, Governor Adeleke promised to complete all ongoing projects and continue addressing the needs of Osun State residents.

This statement was warmly received by attendees, as Adeleke reaffirmed his commitment to balanced development across infrastructure and social welfare.
