Three armed robbers have been shot dead during a gunfight with the police in Filin-Dabo village, Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The spokesperson of the FCT Police Command, Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday. She said the clash happened on Wednesday night after the police received a distress call at 11:50 PM about a robbery in the area.
The Divisional Police Officer of Dei-Dei ‘A’ Division quickly mobilized the police Anti-Kidnapping Unit, soldiers from the 102 Battalion, Guards Brigade, the Civilian Joint Task Force, and local vigilantes.
Adeh explained that the six-member gang tried to escape into the bushes but then ambushed the security team. However, the officers overpowered them with superior firepower.
Some of the suspects were injured in the shootout. They were taken to Kubwa General Hospital, where doctors confirmed three of them dead. The remaining three are receiving medical treatment.
The police recovered dangerous weapons from the gang, including an AK-47 rifle, three magazines, 19 rounds of live ammunition, two locally made pistols, and two knives.
Other items found were a taser, a mobile phone, charms, and dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
This incident follows a similar operation in Jahi, FCT, on November 7, 2024, where the police killed two armed robbers and arrested four others.
In another operation, the police arrested five car snatchers and recovered 13 stolen vehicles.
FCT Commissioner of Police, Tunji Disu, has assured residents that the police will continue to take strong action against criminals in the region.
