In a recent development causing a stir on social media, Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, the manager of gospel singer Mercy Chinwo, faces imminent arrest following allegations of a $345,000 fraud.
Justice Alexander Owoeye of the Federal High Court in Lagos granted a warrant of arrest against Onyedikachukwu on Thursday.
The warrant was issued based on a motion brought before the court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), represented by Mrs. Bilikisu Buhari.
The EFCC sought the arrest under various legal provisions to compel the manager’s appearance in court to answer criminal charges.
According to the EFCC, the gospel singer accused her manager of clandestinely collecting royalties from her digital platforms and events, amounting to approximately $345,000, without her consent or remittance. Efforts to apprehend the manager had previously failed, prompting the EFCC to pursue a warrant of arrest.
The court has adjourned the case until January 24, 2025, for the manager’s arraignment. This development has sparked widespread commentary among netizens on social media platforms.
