American rapper Nicki Minaj has said she worked with Nigerian Afrobeats star Davido on her song “If It’s Okay” to give it a true Afrobeat vibe.
Nicki shared this in response to a question from a fan on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday. The fan, Tae, asked, “What drew you to Davido for the song ‘If it’s Okay’? In my opinion, he was an ideal choice for this incredible masterpiece! He was speaking that ish.”
Replying, Nicki said, “That man is an incredible writer an melody maker. It’s always a pleasure working with him because of our mutual respect for one another.
“I asked him to be apart of it in order to bring out the Afro beats tempo/feeling in it a bit more. Naija to the world!”
The track is part of the special 10th-anniversary edition of Nicki’s famous album “The Pinkprint,” first released in 2014. This new version includes four fresh songs, featuring collaborations with Swae Lee (Turn Ya Cap Back), David Guetta and Davido (If It’s Okay), and Juice WRLD (Arctic Tundra).
