Customers of Zenith Bank are upset because they cannot access their accounts or make any online transactions almost 24 hours after the bank started routine IT maintenance.
The bank had promised that services would resume by 2:30 pm on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, but by 8:00 am on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, the issue remained unsolved.
Some customers have been unable to access their funds since Monday, making it the third day of this ongoing problem.
Beyond Boders learned that many customers are using social media to voice their frustration, saying there is no clear sign of when the service will be fixed.
One angry customer, Bassey Offiong, posted on X (formerly Twitter), criticizing the bank’s lack of care and calling the situation “reckless and insensitive.”
Another customer, Samuel, complained on Nairaland that his family had gone hungry due to the bank’s issues. He shared, “The experience is really hurtful. Till now my children have not eaten because of one useless Bank which I deposited my money.”
Michael, another customer on X, expressed his frustration over losing business opportunities because he could not log in to his banking app. He said he might close his account if the problem is not solved soon.
In a message shared on social media, Zenith Bank said the maintenance was meant to improve service quality. The bank stated that its mobile app, USSD service, and internet banking platforms would be down between 12:01 am and 2:30 pm on October 1.
However, rumours suggest the bank could be doing more than regular maintenance, possibly migrating its banking platform to a new system.
Zenith Bank, which earned N41.2 billion from electronic transactions in the first half of 2024, has not provided further updates on the situation. Attempts to reach the bank’s media relations manager were unsuccessful.
