Nigerian music star Tems won the Dr. Bobby Jones “Best Gospel/Inspirational Award” at the 2024 BET Awards.
She beat famous gospel singers like Kirk Franklin, CeCe Winans, and Maverick City to take home the prize.
The event took place on Sunday at the Peacock Theatre in Downtown Los Angeles.
Tems’ winning song, “Me & U,” does not fully match the usual gospel style. However, she said the song is about her relationship with God and how she changed over time.
She wrote the song in 2021, but it was officially released on October 5, 2023. Tems, now 29 years old, has already won several BET awards, including Best International Act and Best Collaboration for her work on Wizkid’s “Essence” in 2022, and another Best Collaboration award in 2023 for her song “Wait for U” with Drake and Future.
