In a ceremony held on Wednesday, the Federal University in Gusau, Zamfara State, officially welcomed 2,865 students for the 2022/23 academic session.
This, as learned by Beyond Boders, marks a notable increase from the previous academic years, with 1,945 students matriculating in 2020/21 and 1,453 in 2019/2020.
Despite the prevailing insecurity in the North-West state, where bandits pose a constant threat, the university has seen a rise in student enrollment.
Also, the region has been grappling with attacks on villages and schools, leading to tragic incidents of residents, including students, being killed or abducted.
Addressing the gathering, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Muazu Abubakar, extended prayers for the swift release of students who had been abducted by bandits.
