Charles Oputa, also known as Charly Boy, has apologized after facing backlash on social media.
Beyond Boders recalls that Charly Boy had compared President Bola Tinubu’s fall to the decline of the Nigerian naira.
The incident occurred when President Tinubu stumbled and fell while stepping off a truck at Eagle Square in Abuja during Democracy Day celebrations.
Charly Boy posted a comment online saying, “The slip/Fall of Tinubu. E don fall pass Naira?”
This did not sit well with many persons, as they criticized his comment, calling it insensitive.
In response, Charly Boy expressed regret for his words. He acknowledged that everyone makes mistakes and that his comment was wrong.
Charly Boy wrote, “Who never fuck up raise ur hand. We all at one point or the other, don mis-step, made mistakes and learnt to correct ourselves. Even our great gallant Peter Obi can misstep.”
He also addressed the lack of empathy some Nigerians feel towards the current government, saying, “But e be like say millions of Nigerians no get any kind of empathy for dis APC rulers because they feel badly robbed. Robbed of the people’s choice! I am sorry if my previous post lacked sensitivity.”
Charly Boy added, “However, I support a president wey no go mistep, not just climbing on to the stage. Tinubu’s misstep on and especially off stage is a source of concern to millions of Nigerians. How can we as citizens help correct these missteps?”
