A large crowd of MTN customers gathered at the company’s office in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Monday morning.
They were upset because their phone lines had been blocked. Some people in the crowd got angry and started throwing stones at the building, according to a witness.
MTN, the biggest mobile network in Nigeria, blocked the phone lines of many users on Sunday.
The company said it was because they had not linked their National Identification Numbers (NIN) with their phone numbers.
However, some people believe MTN did this to stop a planned anti-government protest set to start on Thursday.
At the time of this report, MTN has not made an official statement about the issue. It is also not clear how many phone numbers were affected.
“The situation is turning violent. People are throwing stones,” an MTN customer told newsmen from the Iwo road office.

More crowds are expected to gather at other MTN offices around the country on Monday.
