During the recent match between the Super Eagles and South Africa, fans noticed something unusual; the Super Eagles players remained silent during the national anthem.
Beyond Boders observed that the new anthem, ‘Nigeria we hail thee’, seemed to be a struggle for them.
The match, held at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, ended in a 1-1 draw, but before the kickoff, instead of singing along as expected, the Nigerian players stood quietly.
It is customary for players to sing their national anthems before an international game, but this time, the Super Eagles’ silence drew attention.
