“Muri and Ko” Becomes Box Office Sensation, Earns Over N100 Million in Nigeria

The Nollywood movie “Muri and Ko” has made over N100 million from ticket sales in Nigeria.

Released on June 12, 2024, “Muri and Ko” made N50 million in its first week, showing it was very popular. After three weeks, it had earned N89 million, continuing its success.

The movie stars Kunle Remi, Bisola Aiyeola, and Bukunmi Adeaga-Ilori (Kiekie). Other actors in the movie include Femi Jacobs, Buchi Franklin, Charles Okocha, Gloria Anozie-Young, and Fiyinfoluwa Asenuga.

Kunle Remi, one of Nigeria’s top actors in 2023, helped attract many viewers. His roles in Netflix movies like “Anikulapo,” “Praise Party,” and “The Kujus Again” made him very popular, earning N149 million last year.

Directed by Biodun Stephen, “Muri and Ko” is a joint project between Inkblot Productions and Stephen.

Stephen is known for making popular films in cinemas and on streaming platforms. Her movies often have titles based on main characters’ names, like “Tiwa’s Baggage” and “Ovy’s Voice.”

Biodun Stephen started her film career in 2014 with “The Visit,” which was praised for its simple but strong story and cast.

“The Visit” was nominated for two awards at the 2016 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards. Stephen also co-produced “Breaded Life” and directed “Sista.”

“Muri and Ko” tells the story of Muri, a street hustler in Lagos, played by Kunle Remi. His life changes when he accidentally steals a car with a child inside.

As the child’s parents offer a reward and the police search for him, Muri must choose between returning the child safely or facing serious trouble.

The success of “Muri and Ko” shows the growing popularity and quality of Nollywood movies. The high earnings are due to the movie’s strong story and great acting, and it shows that Nigerians are supporting local films more and more.
