Reports which circulated on social media yesterday suggested that Idowu Iluyomade, Senior Pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), City of David Parish, Region 20, was suspended.
However, sources revealed he was simply transferred to another parish.
A source from the church confirmed that Iluyomade’s transfer was officially announced during the monthly thanksgiving service on Sunday, June 2, 2024, held across all RCCG parishes.
Iluyomade will now serve as the Pastor-in-Charge of elders at RCCG Region 1 in Ebute Metta.
Although he was reportedly unhappy with the transfer since he is not yet 70, the mandatory retirement age, it was clarified that this was a routine transfer.
Another source mentioned that Pastor Charles Kpandei from RCCG Resurrection Parish, Region 11, will replace Iluyomade at City of David Parish. Both pastors were scheduled for transfer after serving over eight years in their respective parishes.
“It is normal to have a change in leadership. Most RCCG pastors go on transfer. The church transfers pastors around and both Pastors Iluyomade and Kanpdei were due for transfers. RCCG pastors can even been transferred abroad. It has nothing to do with any event or politics. They were both due for transfers,” the source explained.
Attempts to contact Iluyomade for comments were unsuccessful.
Beyond Boders notes that the City of David Parish has recently been in the spotlight following a birthday celebration for Pastor Iluyomade’s wife, Siju, just nine days after the tragic death of a major parish benefactor, Herbert Wigwe, and his family in a helicopter crash in the United States. This event reportedly upset RCCG’s General Overseer, Enoch Adeboye.
