Nigeria’s own Victor Osimhen wrote his name in the Champions League history books yesterday.
Playing for Napoli against Barcelona, Osimhen scored his 9th goal in the prestigious tournament. This achievement now ties him with Obafemi Martins as Nigeria’s joint top scorer in the Champions League.
Beyond Boders recalls that Osimhen’s journey to this milestone began back in 2019 when he played for Lille.
In a match against Chelsea, he scored his debut goal, cancelling out Tammy Abraham’s opener. Later that month, he found the back of the net again against Valencia.
Moving to Napoli, Osimhen continued his scoring spree. In the 2022/23 season, he netted four times, including crucial goals against Ajax and Eintracht Frankfurt. His knack for timely goals was evident when he scored a stoppage-time equalizer against AC Milan in the quarter-finals.
